Jacques is the Perth technology and IP practice lead.

Jacques is the Perth technology and IP practice lead and has assisted the many government and corporate clients with major, strategic and complex technology projects.

Jacques advises on technology procurement, commercialisation and disputes, intellectual property licensing and protection and general commercial matters. Jacques has a focus on digital transformation, outsourcing, operational technology, critical infrastructure, data use and privacy, cyber security and IP-heavy transactions and commercialisation. Jacques previously worked as a systems consultant with a major outsourcing and managed services provider providing a deep understanding of both the legal and technical aspects of technology transactions.

Jacques featured in 2023 and 2024 Best Lawyers in Australia in the “Ones to Watch” for Privacy and Data Security Law. 

Background

Jacques holds a Juris Doctor from Murdoch University and a Bachelor of Computer and Mathematical Sciences from the University of Western Australia.

  • Origin Energy, ATCO Australia, Synergy, Horizon Power and others in relation to the application of the Security of Critical Infrastructure Act 2018 and ensuring compliance across operations and procurement. 
  • A State government entity in relation to a dispute with its systems implementation consultants for a major transformational IT project, involving complex claims for extensions of time and delay costs of up to $35m.
  • Synergy on its collaboration with Western Power, AEMO and third-party energy aggregators on a pilot project implementing innovative new technology to manage residential rooftop solar energy production within the SWIS.
  • Public Transport Authority on its SmartRider Upgrade Project involving the modernisation of the ticketing and payment infrastructure for Perth’s city-wide public transport system. 
  • Artrya, an ASX-listed health technology company, on the commercialisation of its world-leading artificial-intelligence based cardiology diagnostic platform, including dealing with sensitive health information.
