Rebecca is a senior associate specialising in environmental, social and governance, and dispute resolution.

Rebecca is a Senior Associate in our Environmental, Social and Governance team, advising clients on a broad range of sustainability matters with a particular focus on business and human rights, ESG risk and dispute resolution. Rebecca's role in our central ESG team means that she is at the forefront of the ever-evolving ESG legal landscape, ensuring clients are up to date with the latest advances in sustainability law and regulation.

Rebecca's practice includes advising in relation to international human rights standards, human rights risk assessments, design and implementation of human rights policies and modern slavery statements, sustainability-related bespoke contractual drafting, sustainability risk, "greenwashing and social-washing risk", and the avoidance or resolution of sustainability-related grievances and disputes.

Rebecca also advises clients on large-scale and complex matters related to new and increasing mandatory sustainability due diligence and reporting requirements, including, e.g., in relation to the EU Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive, the prospective EU Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive, and the International Sustainability Standards Boards' IFRS Sustainability Standards.

In addition to her client work, Rebecca is also an active participant in the Business and Human Rights Lawyers Association and the Campaign for Greener Arbitrations, and she is a member of the Invest Europe Working Group on Human Rights. She has also advised charities and NGOs on a pro-bono basis on matters related to discrimination and access to justice.

Background

Rebecca is admitted as a solicitor in England & Wales, qualifying in 2018. She spent five years working as an international arbitration and disputes specialist, and now specialises in environmental, social and governance work. Rebecca has worked in London and Hong Kong and has advised clients from a wide range of sectors (including financing, manufacturing, TMT, energy, construction, aviation, and consumer product) across a wide range of jurisdictions (including the UK, EU, US, Africa and APAC).

  • acting as part of a large international and cross-practice team to advise a global mining company in relation to all aspects of new sustainability reporting obligations under CSRD and ISSB, including by identifying gaps in existing non-financial reporting and outlining key regulatory requirements for an updated reporting framework
  • providing advice to multiple international organisations on human rights policies, due diligence, risk assessments, stakeholder engagement and modern slavery statements
  • running a cross-practice team to advise a global extractive company on managing risk in relation to sustainability-related website publications and public commitments at parent level and across its network of global subsidiaries, including by reviewing and amending website content and advising on greenwashing and social-washing risk
  • drafting bespoke sustainability contractual clauses, including for a multinational mining company's standard form OEM contract in relation to circular economy, decarbonisation and the effective resolution of disputes arising out of such obligations
  • advising a large extractive business on the review and amendment of public and private security agreements in high-risk jurisdictions in accordance with the Voluntary Principles on Security and Human Rights
  • developing and delivering bespoke training to clients on sustainability regulatory developments, sustainability disputes, parent company and supply chain liability, greenwashing and social-washing risk, sustainability contractual drafting, risk management and dispute avoidance strategy, and dispute resolution
  • advising a digital transformation company on the quality and completeness of sustainability-related reporting, risk assessments, targets, and strategy
